Ok guys, need some help :D
Yay I can use tumblr for this! In class without having to close the window when porn pops on my dash or my teacher comes close.
I need you to think of three female characters that takes an important role on a game and give your opinion on them (good or bad).
Like say Lara Croft is too oversexualized and Chell being a great female character.
How Samus’s position as a good character can be questioned after this last game…srsly.
Or even when you create your female characters, what do you think of the customization?
Or just give me your thought in female portrait in videogames.
aah um hmm well I don’t think I’ve seen many female protagonists in games I’ve played but I think that the overall portrayal of females are kind of absurd regarding their designs.
I mean, yes there are plenty of great female characters in video games, but sometimes they’re dulled down or overlooked because the importance of their appearance comes first. Of course, this isn’t the case with all female characters.
You can have an attractive/sexy female character and also give them a good back story and importance and significance in the game. It’s just that sometimes they will only appear as eye candy or just as a love interest for a male protagonist.
The thing is about the video game industries is that they mostly want to attract a male audience, because they think that females aren’t interested in them, so they try their best to attract them by adding a lot of testosterone and some ~*~sexy ladies~*~
A female character I find was made quite well was Nariko from Heavenly Sword. She’s sexy, but is also strong and carries a back story that makes her even stronger as a warrior and as a woman. She proves herself as a person that can change the way people view women in video games and throughout the whole game she is a full out bad ass and I enjoyed playing as her in the game. Also, a thing about the development of this game was that Nariko was originally a male, but the crew decided that it would add much more impact and interest if the character were a female. (and I agree with them, I honestly wouldn’t really like this game as much as I do if she were a guy. And it’s not because she has boobs.)
Another female character I like is Faith from Mirror’s Edge. This character is agile, righteous, and was specifically made to not be as sexy as how the other female characters in video games are. The creators wanted people to play this game not because she was a(n attractive) female, but because this game was well made, with amazing maps and game play.
I also adore Sakura from Street Fighter. I’m not much of a person for arcade style games, but I always really liked Sakura. She’s funny, goofy, and cute. She’s not designed so that all you think about when you see her is BOOBS or BUTT, but how energetic and enthusiastic she is about fighting. Which is great! Since the game is Street Fighter. She’s not really a main character, but she counts as a close one if you consider how inspired and close she is to Ryu. You can’t really have a Street Fighter without Ryu, Chun-Li, or Ken, but you also can’t have it without Sakura.
yuuup! that’s all I have to say. I hope this helps you somehow, Rain!!
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU VI!!!!!!! <333333
All of the above.
Also, Rain, Crimson Viper (C. Viper - Street Fighter IV) may have large boobs to her, but her character is really quite amazing. Her character is a mom, and when she isn’t being a mom she works her butt off. And she kicks ass, as well. So in short, a career woman and mother that can kick your sorry behind into next week if you underestimate her.
And would Amaterasu count, considering she is the Sun Goddess? I mean, I know she’s depicted as a wolf throughout Okami, but…
I also think to Ceres from Final Fantasy VI as a great female character, back in the days when pixels were still sprite in depiction. Ceres didn’t take crap from no one in that game. She was a great fighter. I can’t remember her entire story line since it’s been years, but between her and Terra/Tina, that’s what made Final Fantasy VI my favorite game in the series.
(Terra/Tina unfortunately suffers amnesia in the beginning of that game, but is later revealed to be half human, half… was it summon? And she basically held the entire world in her hands toward the end of that game and could restore balance to the world. I don’t think Locke being in love with her had much if any impact on her character in a negative way. Man I need to replay that game…)
But um yes. I missed the first post, so there’s my two dollars and fifty cents on the matter.
